Happy Thanksgiving to all of my loves!

This is me, singing, again. The video is grainier than usual, not sure why.

There are a couple of other examples of the same song on youtube. Check them out.

Fleeting Days

Time, what an empty vapor ’tis!
Our days, how swift they are!
Swift as an Indian arrow flies,
Or like a shooting star.

Our life is ever on the wing,
And death is ever nigh;
The moment when our lives begin
We all begin to die.

Me and the young’un are heading to Montreal.

Before I think the better of it, I am going to post a video of myself singing a French song. If you have any better ideas, you do your own music monday. I already did a driving in the car post, maybe more than one, so I’m trying to keep it fresh.

Erin O’Brien over at the Owner’s Manual is not only a published author of renown, but also used to do quite a lot of youtube videos. Did she ever sing on them? Further research would have to be conducted by yours truly before I could answer that; but she makes me a little braver than I might otherwise have been had she not boldly paved the way for a blogging chick like me.

The word is reign, from regner; not rain, from pleurer:

Heavy snowflakes are falling. The snow is wet and won’t last, thick and icy under our feet. It is so beautiful outside.

I rather like the studio version of this because Garfunkel’s voice and Simon’s guitar are crystal-clear. But I hate youtube videos of studio recordings. I do love the pink shirts. I love a man in a pink shirt, possibly even a Republican man in a pink shirt. I just love pink, period. Remember my pink milk glass vase? Like that.

The rhythm of the snowfall and this song are one. It could be blossoms falling or dappled light hitting the ground. It is good to find these things.

Ah, me. I hoped to post a music/video combo today. With all of the pain in the world right now, Japan and Libya, and even our own bubbling turmoils from Guantanamo to Wall Street to Wisconsin, I thought it would be nice to tip my hat to an admirable human trait–our ability to create Beauty.

Did you see the Tarsem movie “The Fall?” The opening sequence is an eight-and-a-half minute, black-and-white, slow-motion scene set to Beethoven’s 7th Symphony, 2nd movement. It ranks as one of the most stunning things I’ve seen on film and it literally took my breath away (unlike most Americans one encounters in interviews, I do know what literally means).

I saw the clip of the opening sequence of “The Fall” about 3 months ago on youtube, but is has since been pulled; therefore, dear ones, I cannot post it.

On another note, did anyone else feel sluggish yesterday? Were your children dragging ass on their way to school this morning? Tired in your marrow rather than filled with new sap running up and down the length of your limbs? I know for me it was the absurd time change (a not-so-admirable human creation).

Spring. Waking up. The Fall.

There is only one solution until I can make my coffee-blended.

You would think that after serving as Production Manager for my daughter’s  7th-Grade production of “Mary Poppins,” I would post “Jolly Holiday” or “Steppin’ Time.” Not so, me laddies and lassies. While I loved being around the students and their play, my head rang with the phrase and accompanying tune of “A British Bank” far too often. For the last six, intensively busy weeks, I have not been able to attend my weekly Sacred Harp sing. Every Tuesday night, from 7-10 pm in Northampton, MA at the Helen Hills Hills Chapel (the chapel so nice, they named it twice), a group gathers to sing from “The Sacred Harp.” This is the longest stretch I’ve gone in the last 6 1/2 years without singing on a Tuesday night.

Here’s a fine example of a song from The Sacred Harp led by David Ivey of Alabama.

I still don’t understand what “the third Heaven where God resides” is. Anybody?

Each Monday, for a while at least, I will post something music-related. Here’s my first Music Monday post, in the form of a video. I can’t get enough of this song and my only complaint it that it doesn’t last long enough.

Because this video is somehow controlled by vevo, you have to click through to youtube and you get an ad at the beginning to boot. I don’t know a way around it. However, all of the live versions that I found on youtube were equally mind-blowing, so check them out. This band is TIGHT!

Put your high-heeled sneakers on and remember that the only one who looks foolish in front of a computer playing Raphael Saadiq is the one who’s sitting down.

This is fairly self-explanatory. It was performed at The Amherst Cinema in November, 2010. Sketch written by Hubby, performed by Pam Victor and Mosie McNally. But you’ll know all of that from the end credits. Grab your wheat popcorn and settle in. This is gonna be good!
